Some 180 different soil types can be found here. To name a few, volcanic and sedimentary rocks, sandstones, rhyolite, porphyry, slates and quartzite are such examples. It also where Rotenfels is located, the highest cliff north of the Alps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As in other parts of Germany with volcanic activity, the region also has a number of geothermal springs, the prefix &#8220;Bad&#8221; or &#8220;Bath&#8221; in many of the town names is testimony to that. Despite sitting at 49.8 N, the Nahe region enjoys an almost like Mediterranean climate as it is being sheltered by mountain ranges and forests that protect it from a more adverse continental climate usually associated with these latitudes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No grape other than Riesling has the ability to capture all this varied terroir. In the past the Nahe was overshadowed by its more<br>well-known neighbours from the Mosel and Rheingau, but this has changed. Dr. Martin Tesch of Weingut Tesch is one such example. The winery which was founded back in 1723 in Langenlonsheim, on the Nahe, is one of the region&#8217;s oldest family estates. Today it focuses exclusively on Riesling, bottled from single vineyards with very different soils, from chalky loam to weathered red sandstone and volcanic rock. This is what makes the Nahe so unique.
